According to an AZO Materials article, aluminium has excellent corrosion resistance. When it is exposed to air, a thin, oxidised film forms and prevents corrosion, meaning the material can remain strong for long periods of time without weathering.
Its robust nature is also why it remains an excellent material for fire rated roller shutters.
The material is readily machined and formed, making it a perfect choice for shutters. It is the second most malleable metal and the sixth most ductile.
While it does take quite a lot of energy to produce aluminium, once made it can be easily recycled, which requires only 5% of the energy that it takes to produce new aluminium.
Compared to other materials such as steel, aluminium is more cost effective. While steel is often stronger, aluminium is still extremely durable and much more lightweight while also costing much less.
Aluminium has a high strength to weight ratio, meaning for its strength it is fairly lightweight and easy to work with. This makes shutter creation and installation much easier.
While the natural surface of aluminium is quite aesthetically pleasing in itself, there are also a wide range of finishes available that may be easily applied to the material. Select from a variety of colours and textures to suit your desires.
